How it Works – a new solution in cold weather clothing.

The ActiVHeat® battery-powered portable heating system uses new technology employing very thin yet strong non-metallic carbon fiber bundles. These bundles are integrated into your ActiVHeat® garment to actively warm you to your core and stimulate blood circulation in your chest and back. It uses safe, low-power far-infrared rays to radiate heat from the integrated carbon fiber bundles.

Simple to use. Many popular ActiVHeat products, including the Freedom Weightless Glove Liners, employ an easy-to-use ActiVHeat Lanyard Power & Controller Cabling System to control and adjust the garment's heat level. Lightweight and discreet (it's worn underneath your coat or outer layer), this system includes a one-button heat controller with a multicolor Heat Level indicator light. Turn a cold shiver into warm comfort with the press of a button.

Other ActiVHeat garments, such as the new Heated Lower Back Wrap, feature a built-in, easily-accessible, soft silicon Controller Button to adjust heat levels. The Controller Button illuminates with the corresponding color to the current heat setting.

Wind stopping apparel.
ActiVHeat® battery heated apparel warms without the cumbersome bulk of wearing multiple layers. The wind-stopping fabric makes our portable apparel also suitable as outerwear. How? Our premium-grade windproof micro-carbon and soft shell outer fabrics limit air permeability and increase insulation and comfort because of a laminated fabric bonding layer embedded in the fabrics.

Why is this so important for staying warm? If we were to use regular fleece or fabric, heat would seep out of the pores like water in a bucket full of holes. You would always be required to set the heat on HIGH in order to feel any degree of warmth, draining the battery more quickly. With our special multilayer windproof material and six-layer soft shell garments, the heat is trapped inside your core region, enabling you to turn the heat level down or off once you are comfortably warm. This method better preserves and makes the most of the battery power, keeping you warm for many more hours.

® Rechargeable Battery Packs
Our lightweight, intelligent ActiVHeat® Rechargeable Battery Packs provide hours of power to your heated garment by utilizing one of the safest available lithium ion rechargeable battery technologies on the market. A special AC wall charger rapidly charges the Battery Packs. The Battery Pack is stored in an interior pocket of the heated jackets for easy access. One Standard ActiVHeat® Rechargeable Battery Pack can supply you with up to six (6) hours of continuous heat while one Double Capacity ActiVHeat® Rechargeable Battery Pack can provide up to twelve (12) hours of continuous heat during standard use. Safety First
ActiVHeat is devoted to the safety and well-being of our customers. We take every step possible to ensure our heated garments and rechargeable batteries are of the highest quality. Every single ActiVHeat® is thoroughly inspected and tested before leaving the garment factory. Below, we attempt to assuage some safety concerns.

Is there a risk of electrocution?
When it comes to heated clothing, a common concern centers around the misconception of electrocution - particularly when it rains. It's virtually impossible to be electrocuted by ActiVHeat® portable heated clothing. Since the rechargeable heated clothing systems used in ActiVHeat® heated jackets, vest, glove liners, etc., run on low voltages - less than 12V. Theoretically, you could jump into a river and, at most, you would feel a mild buzz. ActiVHeat® heated clothing runs on only 7.4 Volts, lower than the average voltage used in most children's electronic toys.

What about High Frequency EMF Radiation?
All battery powered electric heated clothing is also safe from high frequency EMF. The voltage operating any battery operated heating clothing is less that 13V DC and the frequency is 0 Hz; meaning there is no EMF.

Workmanship is another story. In 2007, at least one maker of battery heated clothing had their products recalled by a national retailer due to risk of overheating or catching fire. As with any product, all heated clothing is not created equal. Bad wiring design and workmanship can cause "hot spots," which have a safety risk. You need to be confident the product you are buying is safe and from a reputable manufacturer.

How can I develop such confidence?

First, check the manufacturer has passed recent independent test to verify safety. For example, the ActiVHeat® heated clothing range has been rigorously tested by an internationally renowned independent testing laboratory. Second, all heated apparel is not created equal. We have supplied large, well-known, quality retailers with our heated products, which is a good indication you will be fine. Such large retailers have stringent testing requirements, meaning the quality evaluation has been done for you. National U.S. Retailers Brookstone and Sharper Image have bought custom versions of ActiVHeat® heated apparel in the past.
